March 2024 Meeting Minutes
Location: Wagon Wheel BBQ, Mountain View CA
MoreBeer
Their spring sales has passed and was too soon for us to do another brew-in. We talked about doing another event in April. In conjunction with that maybe doing a brew class. Noel had ideas on doing a 1hr class, sort of Intro to brewing. Then maybe we can have a second class will be part of the brew day in front of the store.
Noel mentioned about putting a presentation on the google drive for us to put ideas on for a intro 1hr class.
MoreBeer said they have done a class or two that were one hour long, as attention spans will wane if it is too long. It sounded like it was more theory than hands-on.
World Cup
Entries have been submitted and Mark C, John W, and Tony S will be participating in the judging/stewarding.
Stein’s Competition
The window for submissions opens from March 16th-23rd. They only submit take 50 entries of any style. The winner gets a dinner with 10 and a $600 tap.
No NHC
The homebrewers associations announce they will be re-imagining HomeBrew Con.
April Bock
Next month, we taste homebrew Bocks.
Beer City
We setup a basic tap list, which will be as part of our club brew for June. The initial idea was 2 lagers, a Pale Ale, and a IPA/Hazy. All should be 5 gallon brews as we went through a lot of beer last year. There was talk about doing fruit beers from some members. Steve K mentioned a Tangerine Wheat. Mark C was thinking about a fruit beer too. The menu is open for ideas.
Evaluations:
Craig brought his first home brew, a pale ale, that was very good.
Steve K brought his Helles for scoresheet evaluations.
Finally, we had a commercial beer from Sante Adarius, The Divine Wind. It was a Belgian Tripel. Instead of doing a scoresheet on this one, each attendee had a sample and tried to decipher the style. They varied greatly, from Pilsner to the closest which was a Belgian Blonde.
