January 2019 – Meeting Minutes
Will started the meeting with a list of our events and accomplishments of 2019, which my computer was still booting up during.
Competitions – January 22-29 is registration for NHC, don’t have to pay yet
For Women of WoW, get ready for SheBrew in Portland in February
99 entries in Queen of Beer; 13 were from WoW! Casey and Toni medaled; 6 Women of WoW entered!
New year, time for dues! Dues have not gone up for a number of years. Raising dues by $5 to $30 per individual and $40 per couple. Dues may go up a little in February. Send by PayPal with your name to [email protected], or give Scott cash.
Probably will do another run of work shirts this year.
Officers positions open start with Secretary. If anyone is open please volunteer. Steve Keck was nominated and seconded and then objected. Gosh darn the luck!
We need an events coordinator as well. Jim has other life things going on but can still organize the Google bus trip! Volunteers are also sought for this position.
Attendance is light tonight so there are fewer potential candidates than we otherwise might have, hence the call for volunteers.
Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose is closing today. Sad news for those who were nearby.
NCHF is Hawaii themed this year.
Beer break!
At the holiday party there was a 2018 year end survey:
Results were inconclusive.
Ranges from 0 meetings/0 years to 12 meetings per year/20 years for membership.
Favorite/least favorite WoW events: Beer Camp is clear favorite winner by a plurality, bus trip and chili cookoff also popular.
Education topics you’d like to see in 2019: a lot of responses, and will be covering sours, kettle sours, brewing setups
What is our mission statement? Bylaws section 2 have objectives.
Boil down to brew excellent beer, get better at brewing, have a ton of funWe used to be a “competition club” but that wasn’t a thing that anyone wrote as a mission statement
Not that competitions aren’t important or part of those 3 goals
Culture – we have monthly officers meeting
St. Stephens Green in MV from 7:30 to about 9
Fun meeting and also work gets done
A lot of the details are handled on Slack
In January will have a 8-10 pm officers’ meeting and invite the whole club
A good way to see what being an officer might entail and incentivize people to run for secretary and events coordinator
Scott Angel – what do we all want to see from the web site?
More calculators, like alpha acid/bitterness – John W
Direct replacement lookup for hops – John W
Random photo of the day sent out – John W
Jon Kissinger video called in from Vegas! That was a cool surprise!
It has been a pleasure and an honor to be secretary of this great club for a number of years. I still plan to be involved and come to meetings regularly, even though I won’t be secretary going forward. Happy new year!
